Today was a very hard day for many in my big family. Everyone gathered together from all over to pay truibute to my Grandfather. It was such a hard day yet such a good day all in one. Looking at the bright side of things my grandpa, Ellis Hughes Oram, went and saw God. He got to met him and give him a hug and be around all the family we have lost in the past. It was so hard to say good-bye but knowing that he is now off in a better place it makes it a little easier.
My grandpa was like no other. He had such a great since of humor and he loved life and everyone in it. I don't think I ever saw him act rudely to any person or for that matter I have never heard him speak ill of anybody. Anyone who walked into my grandpas life was touched by his positivity and love of Christ. He never let anything get him down and he was there for every single one of his children, grand children, great-grandchildren (which is what I am), and even his great-great grandchildren. Each one of us had a different nickname. So many nicknames is was crazy how he remember each one of us. Yet somehow he remembered us all successfully.
He was truly a wonderful man. His life has touched many for good. I will never forget the day I got married. I was sitting and waiting to go up stairs to get ready and he was wheeled in. I looked at him and smiled. I walked over and bent over and gave him a kiss on the check and told him I was so glad that he was there. His reply, "I wouldnt have missed it for the world and I am so glad to be here." It touched my heart so much. Many great memories I have with this man. Having him there showed me how important church and the temple are to him and I wish to be like that.
He was the neatest man in the world. His heart was filled with love and willingness to befriend everyone. He honestly, never turned anybody away. Everyone was welcome to come and see him no matter what.
My great grandpa will always live in my heart. From his crazy songs to his love of Christ. I know this man is with God and I cannot wait to be with them too.
